Responsible People for Collaborative Solutions to returning to school safely

We are a group of concerned, responsible people, who support and believe strongly in the safe reopening of the public education in ARPS, Amherst Regional Public Schools. We may have/be students, loved ones, friends, family, neighbors, or some connection to/with the Amherst Regional School System. We have respect for our Teachers, Administrators and School Committee, but we believe that we need to have a voice for our children and families, who have not been able to actively participate and be a part of an “outside the box” solution in this tough time. We have systems in place that are not conducive to such creative problem-solving, so we would like to respectfully support and contribute to the process while keeping the needs of ALL students, staff, families and community involved.  We are a community of intelligent people, who are kind, caring, hard-working, and compassionate. We concede that it is impossible to find a solution that will satisfy every student’s unique situation, but we do believe that we can do better if we all work together, we are transparent, and accountable.

To collaborate with teachers, staff, administration, students, and the community to return to school safely.  We want teachers, staff, and administrators to know that we respect them and have their backs as we did Pre-COVID.

Our goals are to:

  1. Return our children and staff back to school safely, with plans in place to support the return and on-going educational instruction for all students, whether in-person or remote.

  2. Find "Out of the box solutions" that provide LIVE instruction, whether in person or remote.  Pre-recorded lessons should done by the classroom/subject teacher and consistent with best practices.

  3. Seek transparency and accountability for all: Staff, Teachers, Student, Parents/Guardians, and Community.

  4. Create solutions based on science, objective data, and the needs and best interests of our collective community.

  5. Unite as a group and not operate in silos/individually.  Our mission is to help disseminate information about school decisions/plans that are not currently being widely shared in the community.

  6. Collaborate on a plan that is safe, responsible and achievable.  We do not want a plan that contributes to systemic racism.

  7. Be involved in making our community better, safer, and more just for all by utilizing our community of intelligent people who are kind, caring, work hard, and compassionate.

Educating our future is everyone's responsibility

A.R.P.S. United wants the community to understand the science behind transmission of COVID-19, understand the measures that can be followed to keep everyone safe because distance learning harms the future of our students and continues systematic racism.

Our Students are responsible.  They have been since March.  They will follow the rules so they can safely return to the classroom AND LEARN.
